Concern for Community is one of the guiding principles of Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative (PSREC) and its subsidiary, Plumas-Sierra Telecommunications (PST). This core principle sets cooperatives across the nation apart from other types of utilities and businesses.

Cooperative employees—your neighbors, friends and family—devote time to a variety of programs, building relationships and community partnerships.

For the past 2 and a half years, we have had to rise to meet new challenges and strengthen the safety net for our community. Our crews have kept the lights on while wildfires raged around us. Plumas-Sierra Telecommunications has been working to provide internet to as many homes as possible as many are continuing to work from home.

While our purpose is to provide safe and reliable energy to you, the members we serve, we have a greater mission: to be a catalyst for good.

Here are some of the other ways PSREC, PST and our employees contribute to our local communities:

  • Sponsoring youth programs, including the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, sending local students on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
  • Supporting the Portola Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration.
  • Offering $1,000 scholarships to local students who are PSREC members or PST customers, with no upper age limit.
  • Participating in local chambers and economic development groups.
  • Coaching local sports teams.
  • Hosting food, toy and coat drives in November and December.
  • Participating in safe trick-or-treat events.
  • Participating in Adopt-A-Highway cleanups throughout the year at the Graeagle Park & Ride.
  • Volunteer time at parades and community events, including golf tournaments, marathons, bike races, concerts and fundraisers.
  • Presenting electric education and safety awareness programs in schools and various children’s groups.
  • Supporting local nonprofit projects.
  • Buying, cooking, and serving food at community dinners.
