During the audit, we will examine potential problems you may be having with infiltration, energy-hog appliances, water heating, insulation, heating systems or other special equipment that may be working improperly.

Compact Fluorescent Lights - A Great Switch!
In most cases, it’s a good idea to replace your regular incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs. Compact fluorescent lights are 75% more efficient than incandescent bulbs and will last approximately ten times longer. They also burn cooler than an incandescent bulb, and are a great way to save on your electric bill.

Your neighbors at PSREC are offering, while supplies last, compact fluorescent light bulbs for $1 each for PSREC members (limit 15 bulbs) and $3 for Non-Members (limit 15 bulbs). A 16-watt CFL is the equivalent of 60 watts of light!  You may purchase compact fluorescent light bulbs at our office in Portola, with cash, check, or credit card while supplies last.

Keep Hot Water Costs Under Wraps!
Water heating is a home's third largest energy expense, accounting for 14% of the energy bill. Proper insulation of the electric water heater storage tank and pipes coming from it will cut down heat loss. Setting the water heater to 120 degrees provides enough hot water for household use and can save 5% on the fuel bill.

Saving Water Saves Energy!
Installing low-flow showerheads is a great way to save water and energy. They reduce the flow of water by one-fourth without affecting the power of the spray. Taking a three-minute shower while using a low-flow showerhead uses only half as much hot water as a full tub-bath and saves you money on your electric bill. While supplies last, your neighbors at PSREC are offering their co-op members Low-Flow Showerheads for $3. You may purchase low-flow showerheads at our office in Portola, with cash, check, or credit card while supplies last. (Limit two per member.)
